Project Size: 1,000 sq. ft.
Create a fun, practical workspace for an interior design firm within the confines of a narrow building and a tight budget.
The design team retained and refurbished the existing building shell and hardwood floors to control costs. Then, they introduced inexpensive, off-the-shelf items but invented new ways of using them. For example, using electrical conduit tubing for partition and shelving supports, and using translucent corrugated fibreglass partitions (often seen on shed roofs) to retain a light, open feeling in this narrow space. Energy-efficient compact florescent lighting culminated in a unique, custom-designed boardroom chandelier made entirely of light socket splitters.
The result is an eclectic, light-hearted and amicable space. The innovative use of materials and colours provides an appropriately playful backdrop for the creative aspects of this interior design company.
